About the project
Every four years, over 60,000 Portuguese Scouts pack up their tents for ACANAC's national camp, the biggest youth gathering in the country. For the 23rd edition in 2017, I developed the branding for "Protetores da Floresta" (Protectors of the Forest), sponsored by The Navigator Company.
The brief was to give thousands of young people a visual identity they were proud of and represented them, and they could carry through days of workshops, team challenges, and outdoor learning led by their own scout leaders. It needed to feel adventurous, tied to nature, and built to survive a field full of mud, sun, and 60,000 excited teenagers which was a really fun challenge.
Logo
The logo I made is a circular badge, like the ones scouts collect and sew onto their uniforms. In the middle, there's a little forest, layered trees in different greens against a soft blue sky, kept simple and a bit hand-drawn rather than polished.
"Protetores" and "Da Floresta" wrap around the top and bottom in bold, stamped letters, with "acanac 2017" and "by Navigator" tucked in smaller letters. The fleur-de-lis on either side is a nod to scouting's roots.
Mostly, I just wanted it to be something a kid would actually want on their uniform. Tough enough for a few days in a field but friendly enough for young scouts.
